Are you referring to a specific product? All I can find I an app that I haven’t tested. If you mean in general, step by step through all levels, then I’m reasonably sure there is no such resource…

Glad to hear you find it useful! To answer your question, you should definitely not learn every character on every page. By doing so, you will learn lots of (for you) useless characters, which will stop you from learning characters you actually need. Only learn characters that appear frequently (a rule of thumb is three times) or that seem crucial to understand what’s going on. Looking everything up also make it less fun to read.

One question has been niggling at me, and I’m asking it here because I don’t have a language-learning community. Should I try and learn every character on every page? Or should I just pick 2-5 new ones per page as long as I’m getting the flow? Any veteran language learners have a suggestion?

Sara mentions they exist, but every store I entered in Taiwan says ‘no’ and my wife who is Taiwanese says “Dont be silly. Second graders can read without bopomofo and comics are for older kids”. However my own kids growing up mostly in US (and me!) could use bopomofo.

Any Chinese speaker in Taiwan should be able to recommend a LOT of these comics since most of them for younger readers do have bopomofu. I read one recently about the Wright brothers and found that useful. Anyway, good article and this looks like a good site. I really like the idea of reading through comics with the pictures helping to understand in context and the need to read absolutely essential to advance one’s spoken Chinese above a kind of intermediate level.

Do you have any recommendations for titles I could ask friends to help me find there?

Thanks!
